The Portage County Public Library, in collaboration with the Wild Ones Central Wisconsin Chapter, will share information about local seed libraries during an open house from 4-7pm on Monday, May 5 at the PCPL Stevens Point Branch, 1001 Main Street.
The public is invited to stop by the library to speak with representatives from a variety of groups involved in promoting local biodiversity and self-reliance by growing fruits, vegetables and native plants with seeds available at local seed libraries. For anyone unfamiliar with the concept, a seed library is a spot where anyone can pick up free seeds to grow at home. Currently, all four PCPL locations in Almond, Plover, Rosholt and Stevens Point have seed libraries.
This event will feature activities for kids starting at 4pm, including planting a seed and decorating either seed packets or pots in which to grow seeds. Starting at 5:30pm, a variety of groups involved in local seed libraries will give short presentations on their participation and take audience questions. This includes the City of Stevens Point, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Environmental and Conversation Planning Club, Growing Collective, Wild Ones Central Wisconsin, and the Portage County Public Library. We also will have a variety of seed packets attendees can take home.
This event is free and open to the public, and no registration is required. Call the Portage County Public Library at 715-346-1548 for more information.
